I was inspired by ancient Japanese swordsmiths and the traditions of sculpture to make beautiful patterned metalwork. Sculpture, pattern and color become a harmonious whole when symmetrical patterns accentuate the shape.
The “painting” must fit the sculpture
like the stripes fit the tiger.
The Koi™ and Wabi Sabi™ collections are cousins to my original gold mokume gane. The collections incorporate metals that I’ve used before, but in a new way.
Unlike my mokume gane pattern work, the Koi™ patterns are uncontrolled and have an Impressionistic quality that invites the wearer to interpret the imagery.
Wabi sabi is the Japanese art of unconventional beauty. The Wabi Sabi™patterns are deeply etched and patinated to bring out their earthy beauty.
